Wartrail on the borders of Southern Lesotho was an absolutely epic Adventure Bike country and all levels of skill were catered for at the 2011 event. Different routes were set, ranging from the truly tough to the tough enough.
With Rallye Raid you choose what level of adrenalin suites you. The most important thing to remember is that Rallye Raid is not a race. There’s no pressure and all routes are equally rewarding. Maps and GPS downloads of the routes are always available.
Rallye Route 1 was and will remain the toughest test and recommended for expert riders. Yes – Riders were warned! Weapons of choice for 2011 were the Yamaha Tenere, Honda XR650, KTM 690, KLR650. Although 2011 saw some of those legal 450’s entered as well, 450’s will no doubt be scattered throughout the routes. Distance per day was about 150 km's but don't let that fool you. Knobblies were essential.
Rallye Route 2 was a mixture of tough terrain, tricky sections and dirt road transport sections which was recommended for experienced riders. +- 250 km's. This is always one of the most popular routes and a lot of private farms and some regional roads were used.
Rallye Route 3 was an endurance route of predominately scenic riding on dirt roads with a few mountain passes thrown in for good measure. +- 350 km's. This saw us exploring Rhodes, Otto Du Plessis pass and other great riding areas in and around Wartrail.
Rodeo Challenge. As with all other years of Rallye Raid this consisted of various mild to wild skills activities, ranging from slow race to long jump to Barrel racing and a display by some of the best. This event is open to everyone and has always guaranteed a whole heap of fun.
